Nettaigyo wa Yuki ni Kogareru, also known as A Tropical Fish Yearns for Snow, is a manga series by Makoto Hagino that follows the story of two girls who develop a close friendship in the aquarium club of their high school. The series explores themes of loneliness, self-discovery, and the complexity of human emotions.


Konatsu Amano, the main character, moves to Iyo-Nagahama to live with her aunt after her father goes overseas for work. She stumbles upon her new high school's aquarium open house and meets Koyuki Honami, an upperclassman, whom she becomes infatuated with. In an attempt to get closer to Koyuki, Konatsu joins the aquarium club, which previously had Koyuki as the only member.


What makes Nettaigyo wa Yuki ni Kogareru stand out is its clean and beautiful visuals, with the mangaka being able to convey the characters' emotions through stunning artwork. The characters themselves are likeable, but nothing out of the ordinary. They go through some character development, but nothing stands out.



One of the series' strengths is its portrayal of the complexity of emotions and relationships, but it falls short in its execution. The two protagonists' relationship, which the series claims to be a platonic one, turns out to be something more. However, the story never acknowledges this, leading to a frustrating and unsatisfying conclusion.


Despite its shortcomings, Nettaigyo wa Yuki ni Kogareru is still a bittersweet tale of friendship that is worth reading, especially for those who enjoy clean and visually stunning manga.
